You heard comments and maybe
grievances from your seniors about critical literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope
for this subject as you are just started.
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim….Assalamualaikum, may peace be upon you.
CRITICAL LITERACY?? I have heard a lot about a
critical literacy subject before this from the seniors. Every time I asked the
seniors about what the hardest subject for this semester, most of them in
opinion that critical literacy is the killer subject for semester 4. One of the
seniors that I asked her comment about this subject said that, “Critical
Literacy is very famous among Diploma in English students just because the
subject is very hard to score and if you are on
the wrong track, it will beat you down. You should be prepared from now
mentally and physically.”
I am surprised with the feedback given from the seniors regarding this
subject. All of them are very eager to tell me the difficulty of Critical
Literacy that really burdens them and put them at the maximum level of pressure
when they are in semester 4. It makes me wonder why there are too many harsh
comments about Critical Literacy. Undeniably, after I heard their negative
comments, I was quite anxious. I always ask myself, “is it possible for me to
score A for this subject?,” and that time I admit I do not know what the appropriate
answer that I should give for the question.
Even though there many negative comments about Critical Literacy,
Alhamdulillah there are some seniors that opposed the opinion. They said that
Critical Literacy is not as hard as what it was heard. Critical Literacy is an
enjoyable subject if you really understand what Critical Literacy is about.
This is because the subject will give you the skill to write, read and think
critically which is very useful to be applied in any field of study. Critical
Literacy requires the students to think deeply, extraordinary and out of the
box. According to Critical Literacy study guide module, Critical Thinking is a
decision- making process. Specifically, Critical Thinking means carefully
considering a problem, claim, question, or situation in order to determine the
best solution. In addition, it is
important for the students to spend enough time to read much kind of materials
for this subject. The magic word is always ‘READING’ which is 8-10 hours per
week for the minimum. It is mean I need to be a bookworm to excel in this
subject.
Undeniably, sometimes I felt not
confident whether I can perform well for this subject. However, whenever I fell
down to survive for this subject; I will always remember my mum words, “Dear,
you are what you think. If you think you can do it, of course you can do it.
Always be positive. Throw away all the negative thinking and thoughts. There is
nothing that impossible to get in this world with hard work. No pain, no gain.
Believe in yourself my dear. ”
Alhamdulillah, today after almost
3 weeks I have learned Critical Literacy, honestly I think I have fallen in love
with this subject. I found that this subject is very interesting and fun. The subject taught me about how making a good
decision in any situation using the skill of critical thinking. It also makes
me know that Critical Literacy is the truth what is right but what is
right not necessarily the truth. Thus, I have to be critical in judging any
situation.
Last but not least, I would like to dedicate a special thanks to my
Critical Literacy’s lecturer, Madam Zariati Binti Radzali for her help and
guide. The way she taught and explained about Critical Literacy made the
subject easier to understand. Alhamdulillah.. Lastly, to be frank, what
my expectation for this subject is I will score A and it can help me to increase my confidence level to
voice out my own views in any particular situation. I really hope I could perform
the best for this subject and everything will run smoothly. In Sha Allah.. Amin.. Everyone, please pray the best for me and all my
friends. That’s all from me for this entry. Thank you so much. <3
